Number One

This is my very first post, on my very first blog. I'm not sure how exactly to do it or what I'm supposed to write????

Let me start by saying that my mom is my decorating inspiration. We never had a ton of money, and with three girls most money was spent on clothes and food....we were good eaters! My mom, Jane, always loved to switch things up, and is known for her love of rearranging our furniture with the seasons. Growing up we thought it was foolish, a waste of time even. Only now, as I decorate my home, do I find myself drawn to her decorating style.
Three rules my mom always taught me:

1) Doilies are a wonderful addition to any surface. Under lamps, plants, whatever. They help to soften and add visual interest.

2) Curtains!!!! You must have curtains. Nothing warms up a room like curtains.

3) A little paint can go a long way. My mom has pieces of furniture that have stood the test of time. She has painted them over and over again, as her taste and color pallet changes. Again, growing up I thought she was crazy for getting down on her hands and knees to paint that ugly coffee table.

And with that I dedicate this first blog entry to my mom....love ya to pieces!
